Fall climbing is on...

The GRANIT team kicked off the season with a crispy session in Great Barrington, MA. Team photog Craig Copelin has some evidence. It was also an opportunity for us to get together and check out new styles and designs for F09. We'll have them on the ecommerce site soon... in time for Holiday gift giving. www.granitlife.bigcartel.com

BETAMAX // Cellulite Eliminator (v7), Tuolomne Meadows, CA

Sorry... it's been a while since we've updated the blog... particularly because we've been working on some new tee designs... and climbing! In our latest vid, Dave Sotelo sends the ultra-classic Cellulite Eliminator (v7) at the Gunks Area in Tuolomne Meadows. During our visit, the temps were perfect... nice and sunny with low humidity. Cellulite Eliminator is such a stellar problem and well worth the visit from the Valley. For music, we introduce our first track from Ted Lin. Enjoy.

Last week Craig attended guide training for Hueco Tanks State Historical Site. We are excited to have a guide in our company. The course was a little long, but completly worth it. Look for Granitlife to be well represented next season at the Tanks.

BETAMAX // ORANGE BUDDHA (v8), Mickey's Beach, CA

Shooting this short clip had a unique set of challenges... like (lots) of naked people in the background. Smack dab in the middle of a tucked away nude beach is a dense little boulder with the classic Orange Buddha (v8). Here Matt Burbach makes quick work of this Marin County gem. Music by PushleveL, www.myspace.com/pushlevel.

BETAMAX // ANTI-HERO (v5), Bishop, CA

For our second installment, Ngoc Nguyen Sotelo sends Anti-Hero (v5) at the Sads, Bishop, CA. Know as a "dude" climb due to long moves between (relatively) good holds, Ngoc-a-nator linked together some of her own midge-beta. Music is from PushleveL, a recording artist from SF. Check out www.myspace.com/pushlevel.

GRANITlife fashion show at Bridges Grand Opening

GRANIT showed our Spring 2009 tee shirts at a fashion show of local designers at the Bridges Rock Gym in the East Bay, CA. The GRANIT line kicked off the release of Aere Fashion. Our response to the climbing community was well received. Special thanks to all the models to stepped up to the runway...we flew by the seat of our pants and things turned out well! Posted are a few pics from Ngoc Sotelo.

GranitLife attended and sponsored prizes at the Hueco Rock Rodeo this year. The days climbing was spectacular, with great performances found in all categories. The weather was cooperative, with a slightly cool day, and a windy night. The company was exquisite. The event was a blast. The climbs and the climbers were impressive. Particularly impressive was the show in the mutant category, where double digits were used as warm ups. The after party included great burgers and a rousing awards ceremony. It was quite windy , but the party continued on into the wee hours. As always the bonfire was enormous. If you have never attended a Rock Rodeo, you should put it on your road tripping calendar for 2010. Look for GranitLife to return with a bigger presence in 2010.

Red Rocks Rendezvous report

GRANIT is back, alive, and well from the Red Rock Rendezvous. There were about 850 participants who traded their slot-machines for climbing clinics at this year’s event outside Las Vegas. While there were more participants that ever, things were pretty mellow. It was a pretty cool scene... nowhere else is there an event with this many rock climbers gathered for one purpose. Even with the rainy last day, everyone had an awesome time. Big thanks to Mountain Gear for putting this event together.

GRANITlife x The Rock Club BCL Showdown // April 3

We’ve teamed up with The Rock Club in New Rochelle, NY to produce a limited edition tee for their April 3 Bouldering Circuit League Showdown Bouldering Comp. Only 35 of these shirts will be made and given to the first competitors to sign up. Imagine that... all you gotta do is register, you don’t even have to win to get hooked up with this scarcely produced tee. Instead of getting trashed on a Friday night, climb in TRC’s BCL Showdown and add something new to your wardrobe.

GRANITlife x Bridges Rock Gym Grand Opening

As if the Bay Area of SF didn’t have enough gyms already, a new one is making a strong statement in El Cerrito. The Bridges Rock Gym is having their Grand Opening Event on Saturday, March 28th, and Sunday, March 29th. All events and activities are free... climbing classes, slacklining, climb/dance performances, bouldering comp, slackline comp, movies, etc ... Check out a full schedule, go to www.bridgesrockgym.com.

The whole weekend is jam-packed with events, but be sure to check out the fashion show on Sunday at 7PM. GRANIT will be showing our line at the show, hosted by Aere. Sure, we want to you check out our stuff, but the real reason you should come by that weekend is because the Bridges is SICK. This bouldering gym has 18’-tall boulders that top out, a ton of space, and some stellar route-setting headed up by Chris Bloch.

Vegas baby...Red Rock Rendezvous

Last year’s event was such a blast that some GRANIT team members will be attending the Red Rock Rendezvous outside Las Vegas this weekend. The weather should be awesome for this fun-filled weekend of music, instruction, games, food, entertainment, and of course... climbing. Don’t be afraid to get online for some last minute airfare to Las Vegas, because you can find some great deals. We’ll be sure to post after the event, but give us a few days to recuperate first. And remember, what happens in Vegas...gets posted on the Internet.

GRANITlife x FEATS OF STRENGTH

Pulling plastic has been a part of GRANITlife’s roots and we’re psyched to give back to the sport and lifestyle by supporting some comps. Our first endeavor was with the Cliffs Climbing Gym’s FEATS OF STRENGTH comp, on February 21 in Valhalla, NY. This gym has been a training ground for GRANIT the past couple of years and has a great team, headed up by Mike Wolfert. For such a low-key event, this year’s comp brought in some serious heavy hitters in the Open Divisions. Check out full results and pics at www.thecliffsclimbing.com. Thank you to all the folks at the comp who represented GRANITlife, we appreciate spreading the love. Special thanks to Jeffrey Hale for sharing these pics with us.
